Human Error Almost Crashed the Internet

This morning, for less than an hour, it seemed the entire Internet went bad.

Google works with a non-profit organization called StopBadware.org to help protect you from bad websites when you search. If a site makes ‘the list’, Google will add the message “This site may harm your computer” because it’s suspected to contain viruses or something malicious.

Today Google said everything was bad – including themselves!

Newspapers on the Internet in 1981

When did you get online? I know I did some in college – mostly email and registering for classes. That would have been early 90′s. I got on AOL around ’95 I think.

But in 1981, I was in 4th grade and didn’t have a care in the world about computers, much less the Internet. But there were some newspapers online!

I think the most amazing thing about computer technology is how fast it grows:

The Social Media Club in Greenville, SC was started in early December by Trey Pennington and already has over 200 members.  They will have their first official meeting Monday morning at 7:30 and it looks to be a good one!
Our speaker will be Geno Church, a word-of-mouth-marketing trailblazer and creative genius. You’ll get the chance to rub elbows with the “social elite” or be around others that are interested in growing their business through social media.

If you need to phone a friend and then answer, that’s okay.

Social Media is Recession-proof

Well, sorta.

I know times are tough with income and budgets.  Unfortunately, the wrong areas often get cut during tough times.

Personally, we’re cutting out gym membership – something we probably need the most but we think we can make it on our own.  Truth be told, we probably won’t be as effective at losing weight and getting in shape than we would be if we committed to the gym.  But we’re looking to make financial cuts.

Businesses are also feeling the budget crunch so many are cutting back on marketing.  Just like us cutting back on the gym membership, it doesn’t … Continue Reading

Today I read several great perspectives that I just wanted to share with you:

By the way, if you are following … Continue Reading

Web Publishers in 2009

two lone computersI’m not a big fan of going on record and making predictions about the future – especially when it comes to web marketing and other Internet technologies.  This space moves so fast it’s hard to tell where it’s going sometimes.

However, I have a suspicion about the direction we may see the spaces of social media and how people engage through web technologies.  These thoughts are all based off what is happening among web publishers.
