Other People’s Posts

There’s been a lot of great content online lately and I thought I’d just take a moment to share some of the highlights…

  • How To Handle Negative Blog Comments: “Negative comments make people nervous. Perhaps you care less when someone tells you that they hated the post you wrote on your personal blog about your cats, but when someone is knocking your brand, or worse, a brand for whom your services have been contracted, it takes a strong stomach to let those comments ride. But trust me, it’s worth it. A few negative comments are not going to be the undoing of your company, and in fact, can be a strong opportunity to prove yourself.”
  • No man is an island: ”Back in the old days (circa last year), building bridges to your web site was something you did…[such as] SEO (search engine optimization), advertising and building more technology (such as doorway pages) to increase your web footprint. All these efforts were combined to make sure that all of the little robots that scour the web would bring more humans to your sites. The problem is that the robots don’t care … and they’re not friends with the humans…You see, it’s not about technology, it’s about people. You can work and work and work to feed the robots, but the work of enabling personal recommendations is better.”
  • The Catch-22 of Collaboration & Social Media: “We can’t truly understand the benefits and possibilities of social media tools until we use them to collaborate; and yet we can’t truly understand the benefits of and possibilities for collaboration until we utilize social media tools collaboratively.”
  • Spec Work Analysis: Here To Stay –But Not For Everyone: “Specwork will only increase during a recession. Although the initial upsides of cost-savings and rapid prototyping are obvious, it has equal downsides with quality and time management. Buyers should remember that specwork is a tactical process with drawbacks –never crowdsource your design strategy.”
  • The difference between PR and publicity: “PR is the strategic crafting of your story. It’s the focused examination of your interactions and tactics and products and pricing that, when combined, determine what and how people talk about you.”
  • Social Networking Surpasses Email Popularity: “From December 2007 to December 2008, social networks or blogs account for nearly 10% of all Internet time, and the “Member Communities” category of sites surpassed the email category in Internet popularity, measured by time on site.”

Whew! That’s a lot of text. So here’s a video from Google, “Introduction to the Google Ad Auction” that helps explain how Google Ads work:

And to wrap it up, let’s end with a comic illustration:

Of course one way to stay up with the stuff I’m finding, sharing, and publishing is to follow my lifestream.

Have a great week!
